AgNIC: the Agriculture Network Information Center
A voluntary alliance and partnership of nearly 60 member institutions and organizations working to offer quick and reliable access to quality agricultural information and sources. AgNIC is supported, in part, by the USDA’s National Agricultural Library (NAL) through provision of the AgNIC Secretariat and other program support.
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the chief scientific research agency of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. This agency develops technologies and management strategies that conserve and enhance the agriculture and natural resources of U.S.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages 258 million acres of U.S. Dept. of Interior land, mostly in the U.S. West. Their mandate is to manage these lands, and their various resources, to best meet the present and future needs of the American people.
Natural Resources Conservation Service
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), originally the Soil Conservation Service, is a service agency of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. The NRCS helps private land owners and managers in the U.S. to conserve their soil, water, and other natural resources. They produce soil surveys and spatial data for GIS applications, provide technical and financial assistance for conservation, and carry out the National Resources Inventory.

The Pacific Northwest Research Station is one of three research and development offices of the U.S. Forest Service in the Western U.S., with facilities in OR, WA, and AK. This office develops and provides scientific and technical knowledge for all rangelands and forests in the US, not limited to the National Forests and Grasslands.

The Pacific Southwest Research Station is one of three research and development offices of the U.S. Forest Service in the Western U.S., with facilities in CA, HI, and the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands. This office develops and provides scientific and technical knowledge for all rangelands and forests in the US, not limited to the National Forests and Grasslands.
Rocky Mountain Research Station
The Rocky Mountain Research Station is one of three research and development offices of the U.S. Forest Service in the Western U.S., with facilities in AZ, CO, ID, KS, MT, NB, NV, NM, ND, OK, SD, UT, TX, and WY. This office develops and provides scientific and technical knowledge for all rangelands and forests in the US, not limited to the National Forests and Grasslands.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), located in the U.S. Dept. of Interior, works to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) manages 193 million acres of Dept. of Agriculture land, comprised of National Forests and Grasslands. Their mandate is to manage these lands for the sustained yield of renewable resources such as water, forage, wildlife, wood, and recreation.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is the research branch of the U.S. Dept. of Interior and includes biology, geography, geology, geospatial information, and water. The USGS provides scientific information to understand the Earth, minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters, manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources, and enhance and protect our quality of life.
American Forage and Grassland Council
The American Forage and Grassland Council is a scientific and educational organization for people promoting and developing economically and environmentally sound forage focused agriculture. Their members include academics, researchers, producers, and business people.
American Sheep Industry Association
The America Sheep Industry (ASI) is a marketing and trade organization for U.S. sheep producers.
The Ecological Society of America (ESA) is a scientific and educational organization for professional ecologists. Their members include academics, researchers, business people, and students. The society works to increase public awareness of ecology and the appropriate use of ecology in environmental decision making.
Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative
The Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (GLCI) is a coalition of scientific and professional organizations, livestock producer organizations, conservation and environmental groups, and federal and state natural resource and agricultural agencies. The GLCI provides technical assistance on privately owned grazing lands and increases awareness of the importance of grazing land resources.
International Rangeland Congress
The International Rangeland Congress is held every three to five years to promote the interchange of scientific and technical information throughout the world on all aspects of rangelands: research, planning, development, management, extension, education and training.
National Cattleman’s Beef Association
The National Cattleman’s Beef Association is a marketing and trade organization for U.S. cattle producers.
National Sheep and Goat Center
The American Sheep and Goat Center works to strengthen and enhance the production and marketing of sheep, goats, and their products in the U.S.
The Public Lands Council is a professional organization for ranchers in the U.S. West that promotes conditions in which they can profitably ranch on public lands. It was formed by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the American Sheep Industry, and Association of National Grasslands.
The Public Land Foundation (PLF) is an advocacy organization that works to enhance the ecological well-being of BLM lands. Most of their members are retired former BLM employees. The foundation works to keep policy makers and the general public aware of what is happening to the public lands.
The Quivira Coalition is an alliance of environmentalists, ranchers, agency personnel, and academics working together to foster ecological, economic and social health on western landscapes through education, innovation, collaboration, and progressive public and private land stewardship.
Soil and Water Conservation Society
The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) is a scientific and educational organization that fosters the science and art of natural resource conservation, including soil and water on lands used to produce food, fiber, and other services. Their members include academics, researchers, producers, students, and policymakers. The society works to increase the use of science and professional judgment in conservation policy making.
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a conservation organization that works around the world to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
The Wildlife Society is a scientific and educational organization dedicated to excellence in wildlife stewardship. Their members include academics, researchers, wildlife managers, and students. The society works to increase the use of sound biological information for wildlife policy decisions.
