Ecological Foundations of Natural Resource Management

The overall aim of this course is to make direct links between principles of ecological theory and applied aspects of natural resource management; the specific aims are to: understand how knowledge of ecological concepts and theories can assist natural resource managers; develop an understanding of current environmental issues from both an ecological and an economic perspective as well as proposed solutions to environmental problems; appreciate the complexity, functions and value of ecosystems; become familiar with manipulating data; explore basic modeling methods to help understand and addres

Ecohydrology

This course will provide a framework for understanding how plants and animals affect the water cycle; the water cycle in all of its aspects will be examined and explored with the idea of understanding how changes in land cover may influence the water cycle; implications for both upland and riparian systems will be examined.

Dynamics of Populations

Principles, models and methods for analysis of population dynamics; analysis of contemporary research emphasizing theory and its uses in evaluation and management of animal populations. Laboratory emphasizes mathematical, statistical and computer modeling of population phenomena.

Advanced Ecological Restoration

Analysis of environmental factors influencing restoration of disturbed lands and practices for successful restoration of disturbed ecosystems. This course has online exams that require a proctor. Exams may be taken at the University Testing Center at Colorado State University, an approved testing center, or through an online proctoring service as outlined in course syllabus. For traditional site-based proctoring, a Proctor Identification Form will be required. Please submit a Proctor Identification Form at least two weeks prior to the first exam in the course.
